The dead baby girl was found in a trash bin in a women’s bathroom at main airport in Phoenix on Oct. 10, 2005. Wrapped in newspapers and a towel, the newborn had been stuffed into a plastic bag from a Marriott Hotel, the police said. Detectives immediately began investigating the death of the child, who came to be known as Baby Skylar. A medical examiner determined two days after the baby was found that she had been suffocated and was the victim of a homicide. Ms. Anderson was in custody in Washington on Tuesday, and was awaiting extradition to Maricopa County, Ariz., Lt. James Hester of the Phoenix Police Department said at the news conference.

Washington, DC CNN —Baggage handlers and airplane cleaners at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport say they are exposed to brutally hot temperatures and are asking for an investigation into their employer, Prospect Airport Services. Nearly a dozen workers wrote to the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health to say that even on the overnight shift, temperatures spike to unsafe levels while cleaners work inside airplanes without air conditioning. The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health acknowledged the complaint in a brief statement to CNN. “Because it is an open file, we cannot comment further.”The letter also says break rooms are hot, and there is limited access to water. The complaint, from a state that experienced extreme hot temperatures throughout the summer, follows years of complaints from flight attendants and other workers who want more regulations around hot planes.

Eduardo Munoz/ReutersTreks at the airport have been getting worse ever since security changes were implemented after the September 11, 2001, attacks. In Newark, Chicago and other cities’ airport terminals, moving walkways have been removed to make room for more shops and restaurants. Some new airport terminals have recently opened without moving walkways. The airport is now building a tunnel to shorten the walk from security to the concourse. So, are people missing flights now because they have to walk so far?

On Monday, Phoenix finally stopped adding new notches to its record of consecutive days with heat of 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, but more hot days are just around the corner. The high temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reached 108 degrees on Monday, according to a social media post from the National Weather Service in Phoenix. That high on Monday ended the 31-day record of consecutive days of high temperatures of 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. "Wednesday will mark the start of a warming trend with high temperatures eventually expected to once again top 110 degrees over much of the lower deserts by Friday. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for much of south-central Arizona from Friday through Sunday," the National Weather Service said.

Uber wants to make it "absolutely effortless" for drivers and riders to go green, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, adding that "everyone should be able to live a low emissions lifestyle. EV 'charging anxiety'Key to Uber's sustainability push is whether it can persuade more drivers to buy or rent EVs. Rider-emissions statistics, carsharing, and sustainable-food packagingIt's not just drivers that Uber is trying to incentivize to go green. Khosrowshahi added that Uber chose London for the launch because it's Uber's EV hub. Of the more than 60,000 Uber drivers using EVs across Europe and North America, over 10,000 were in London, he said.

The city of Phoenix's aviation department, which runs the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, has launched a childcare program for airport workers and plans to build a childcare facility on airport property. Since its launch, 37 airport workers have joined the program, which covers daycare costs partially. At Kelowna International Airport in British Columbia, Canada, construction is underway for a daycare primarily for children of employees who work on airport property. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is similarly weighing offering childcare on-site or nearby in a bid to offer attractive benefits to workers, said airport spokesperson Mindy Kershner. And then there are others - like Jared Barker, a 33-year-old baggage handler at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport who quit and left the industry altogether last year after mass departures during the pandemic led to a heavier workload.

PREVIEWDave Edwards, the chief executive at Greenville-Spartanburg, said just over a decade ago his airport had no international air cargo operations. BMW today accounts for about a quarter of Greenville-Spartanburg’s roughly 15 international cargo flights a week. Air cargo volumes fell through most of last year as manufacturers and retailers pulled back on orders because of slowing consumer spending. Rockford, about 70 miles from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, has become one of the most successful regional airports for cargo. It is a hub for United Parcel Service Inc. and has attracted air operations for companies including Amazon.com Inc., DSV and A.P.

Southwest AIrlines canceled thousands of flights on the day after Christmas. By 5 p.m. on December 26, Southwest had canceled 2,725 flights, or 67% of its total flights, according to FlightAware. Southwest canceled the most flights of any other airline based in the US on Monday, trailed by Delta, which canceled 262 flights, according to FlightAware. American Airlines is dropping Mesa Air , citing concerns about its partner's financial and operational problems, an enormous blow to the regional airline that was struggling with increasing costs and the industry's pilot shortage. "American and Mesa agree the best way to address these concerns is to wind down our agreement." Large carriers like American, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines routinely contract regional airlines to fly many shorter routes and they account for roughly half of departures, though that number varies by airline. American plans to concentrate its flying with its wholly owned regional subsidiaries like Envoy and PSA, as well as an independent regional carrier SkyWest . The final Mesa flight for American will be on April 3 though American is slashing Mesa flights in March, Kerr said in his note.

Nov 10 (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Waymo said it was opening up its autonomous ride-hailing service for customers in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, pushing ahead with the deployment of robotaxi services in the United States. Investors have been worried about the timeline for autonomous vehicle deployment, as it has been stretched by tough regulatory scrutiny, and delayed commercial adoption of the technology. The autonomous vehicle technology company looks to deploy its Waymo One robotaxi services in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the near future. Customers with the Waymo app can hail a ride within Phoenix's downtown area, the company said on Thursday, after months of test runs. Prior to launching full-fledged services in Phoenix, Waymo operated trips round the clock in Phoenix's East Valley region and provided trips to and from the city's Sky Harbor airport.
Roughly 1,000 fast food workers at San Francisco International Airport are striking, saying they are experiencing stagnant wages and chronic understaffing. Most fast food workers at the airport make $17.05 an hour, which has remained flat for three years, the union said. The SFO Airport Restaurant Employer Council, which manages the 84 restaurants for the airport, did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. Airport food and drinks have grown more expensive, which could lead to further disparity in menu prices compared to wages, as in the case of the San Francisco workers. The SFO strike is open-ended, meaning there is no planned end date.
